iPhone? Not in iWyoming!

Saturday, June 30th, 2007

I’m a huge fan of anything Apple. This is evident by my love of Macs beginning about 21 years ago with my very first Apple IIe (which I believe is still sitting in my mom’s basement somewhere…it’s gotta be an antique by now). I was excited to hear about Apple’s new iPhone…just released yesterday. It’s full of Applelicious features including iPod, email, Safari web browser…besides also being a phone. I’d love to get my hands on one! An Apple gadget? Yes, that’s for me!

HOWEVER, since Apple made this deal with AT&T (formerly Cingular) and ONLY AT&T, Wyoming is left completely out of the Appleliciousness because we can’t get AT&T service here…anywhere…in Wyoming…the TENTH largest state in the nation. Granted, we may come in dead last on the population ranking chart, but that doesn’t mean that we live in the dark ages. We have cell phones, we use them, we like them. Think about all those horrendously long stretches of highway. A cell phone is almost a necessity in Wyoming.

What really irks me is the fact that AT&T states that they have “the largest digital voice and data coverage in America.” So, what?!?!? If you’re going to leave out GIANT chunks of the country and only focus on the Eastern half of the country and the metropolitan areas, how does that help me get an iPhone? See coverage maps below to illustrate my point:

Here’s AT&T’s coverage map. Note the HUGE chunk of the western part of the country that is left with little or no coverage.

Here’s Verizon’s coverage map.

I’m not an idiot. I realize that Verizon uses different technology than AT&T. I only used Verizon’s map as an example because that’s who we use and because they are the #2 wireless provider in the country. It seems logical.

Anyway, I’m sure not all of the 498,000 people here in the state of Wyoming give a crap about the iPhone. In fact, probably very few have really even heard about it or looked into it, but that doesn’t change the fact that I want one and I’m super-annoyed that I can’t have one. Stupid AT&T.

New feature

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

We are proud to feature a new photo album in our Flickr gallery…”Mommy’s Cell Phone Pix!” As you can imagine, it’s a gallery of pictures taken with my cell phone.

Here’s a link to the Flickr album!

Of tickle bears and biter biscuits…

Sunday, June 24th, 2007

Here are a few random photos and a little bit of video. Vaughan had his first taste of a biter biscuit last week. He really seemed to dig it. It was messier than I imagined it would be…

My mom has this adorable bear puppet (which she let Vaughan take home to play with)…

…and here’s some video of Vaughan getting tickled by the bear!

Fun in the Sun

Sunday, June 24th, 2007

We bought one of those blow-up pools this year. For an adult, it’s pretty much just a place to sit in some waist deep water, but for Vaughan, it’s practically Olympic-sized! He seems to enjoy being in the water and even kicks his legs a bit. He looks adorable floating around in his big crab!

Fun in the Sun

This will be great if the weather continues to be as hot as it has been. Then, when it starts getting cooler, we just empty, deflate and pack it away for the winter. Now that’s my kind of pool maintenance…

Mini-Vaca in SLC

Monday, June 11th, 2007

We went to Salt Lake City this weekend for a quick little mini-vacation. We stayed at The Grand (for free!) and ate most of our meals at The Grand (for free!). It was work-related, so Rick did have to spend just a little bit of time touring around the hotel, but other than that, it was just a fun, free trip!

We went to the Museum of Natural History located on the University of Utah campus. They had a frog exhibition that was just opening that day. Rick loves frogs, so that was fun!

Here’s a view from our balcony (on the 22nd floor…although technically, it was the 21st floor since the hotel doesn’t have a 13th floor…silly superstitions):

And here are a couple of us:

We also had breakfast with my friend, Jason, before we left on Sunday:

A great trip! And Vaughan did very well with the seven-hour car trip…he slept for a lot of it. Oh, and we also got to make the trip in our brand new Hyundai Santa Fe. I don’t have any pictures of it yet, but here’s a link to a picture of one on the Hyundai website!

Laziness defined

Monday, June 11th, 2007

So, I looked up “lazy” at dictionary.com and here’s what it said:

la-zy  [ley-zee] , adjective, -zi-er, -zi-est, verb, -zied, -zy-ing.

1.  averse or disinclined to work, activity, or exertion; indolent.

2.  causing idleness or indolence: a hot, lazy afternoon.

3.  see examples below.

They do this ALL DAY…unless there’s a bug in the house…or treats being given.

Out back

Monday, June 11th, 2007

It seems that doing things around the house is a never-ending project, but it’s worth it! Rick moved our back fence up to allow for a couple of parking spaces off the alley. It looks great!

Rick’s mom also bought us a Clematis, so its new home is in the corner by the new fence:

Oh, and here are some pictures of our patio with gazebo and our new swing!
