Ridin’ in style

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

We got a new bike trailer/stroller yesterday. It’s a “Copilot” made by Bell and it has a lot of nice features for a very reasonable price. Hopefully we can get some good use out of it this summer!

Here’s Vaughan giving it a test ride in the backyard (in stroller mode).

A Roaring (20’s) Good Time

Sunday, June 28th, 2009

Another Denim and Diamonds has come and gone and it was great fun as always! The theme this year was “The Roaring 20’s” so Rick and I decided it would be really fun to dress up according to the theme.

The band was excellent and we had a lot of fun dancing! They even did a little Michael Jackson tribute in honor of his recent passing.

What’s Rheya been up to?

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

Time has been flying by so quickly that I can’t even keep up with the new things she can do now!

Rheya

Rheya still likes to spend a lot of time on her tummy. She even fell asleep on her tummy yesterday afternoon while she was playing on the floor. Speaking of sleeping, Rheya has been sleeping in her crib at night and during most naps. Vaughan and Rheya share a room, so we were concerned about them keeping each other awake, but so far it really hasn’t been an issue. Rheya still wakes up in the middle of the night (usually just once or twice), but if one of us can get to her quickly enough and get her settled back down, she’ll go right back to sleep.

She talks a lot and has the cutest high-pitched squeal/sigh that would just melt your heart. She still likes her pacifier and falls asleep pretty easily if she has it. I’ve also noticed that if the pacifier is nearby, she can pick it up and get it into her mouth correctly about 50% of the time. She puts EVERYTHING in her mouth. This will be a very different experience for us since Vaughan never did that…and still doesn’t. Rheya hasn’t expressed much interest in sucking her thumb although she does have her hands in her mouth a lot of the time. We don’t see any teeth making their way in yet, but there sure is a lot of drool these days!

She’s on a regular eating schedule which is nice since it makes it very easy to plan what we’re doing around her meal times. She has had some rice cereal and also some squash which she seemed to enjoy very much, so it doesn’t look like we’ll have much trouble getting her on solid foods.

Rheya is completely fascinated and thoroughly entertained by Vaughan. He’s the best assistant ever! She will laugh at us sometimes, but Vaughan makes her laugh EVERY time. Rheya watches Vaughan all day and gets irritated if she knows he’s running around, but she’s unable to see him.

She weighs a little less than Vaughan did at this age, but she’s in the 50th percentile and the pediatrician said she’s doing really well. She is the light of our lives and an absolute joy! I love to watch her grow and learn and explore every day. Each time she learns a new skill I feel excited and a little sad at the same time because I know it means she is that much closer to the next stage and that much closer to growing up!

Lucky little sister

This morning right after Rick left for work, I heard through the baby monitor that Rheya was awake and starting to fuss. Then, I heard Vaughan say “Ok, Rheya” as he got out of his bed. Then I heard him talking to her and almost humming a little song of some sort. Rheya calmed down right away and started to giggle a little bit. It was the sweetest thing ever! I only wish I could have been watching it happen as well. Vaughan is such a great big brother and I hope Rheya will always know how lucky she is.

Best. Week. Ever.

I’m not sure what Vaughan is expecting for this coming week because he had such an amazing one last week! He got to see dinosaur bones AND monster trucks! I guess we have to go to DisneyWorld now…

Oh give me a home…where the dinosaurs roam…

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

Our local newspaper recently published a story about the UW Geological Museum in Laramie and according to the article, the museum is being shut down due to budget cuts. I had never even heard of the museum, so I looked up their website and discovered the have a nice collection of dinosaur skeletons, fossils, etc. so I knew I had to take Vaughan to see it before the museum is closed on July 1st.

It’s really too bad that they are shutting it down. It was a fun trip and Vaughan really enjoyed all the dinosaurs. Wyoming has a great fossil history and many impressive fossilized skeletons have been found here. I have learned a lot about dinosaurs in recent months due to Vaughan’s interest in them and this museum offered a great deal of interesting information.

There’s talk about a group of people who want to try and raise the money necessary to keep the museum open, so we’ll see what happens. I think it would be a great thing if they could get it done because I know we would go back to visit again if we had the opportunity.
