I found the recipe for Flubber while browsing Pinterest (my favorite site, by the way), so since we didn’t have anything else to do today and I actually had the ingredients on hand, we gave it a try! I only made a half batch because I didn’t have enough glue, but it turned out to be plenty for the kids to play with. It’s such a strange substance and it’s really crazy to watch it form after you mix the two halves of the ingredients together. Vaughan was pretty much amazed!
1 ½ cups warm water
2 cups Elmer’s Glue
3 tsp. Borax
1 cup Warm Water
Stir mixture 1 together in 1 bowl and Mixture 2 in another bowl. Make sure both are mixed well. Then, pour mixture 1 into mixture 2. You don’t really need to stir the two mixtures together as the chemical reaction starts happening almost immediately, but we did stir it around as we watched it solidify. Pick it up and really mush it around in your hands. It will feel really gross and wet at first, but as you work with it, it will become more dry and “rubbery” feeling. Once it’s not leaving goop on your hands, just plop it down on the table for the kids to play with!
I read that you can store it in a Ziploc bag or air-tight container for up to three weeks.
The best part was leaving it to sit for a few minutes and coming back to find it all flattened, smooth, and quite a big bigger around than it was when you left it. Weird stuff!
