Flubber…it’s weird!

I found the recipe for Flubber while browsing Pinterest (my favorite site, by the way), so since we didn’t have anything else to do today and I actually had the ingredients on hand, we gave it a try! I only made a half batch because I didn’t have enough glue, but it turned out to be plenty for the kids to play with. It’s such a strange substance and it’s really crazy to watch it form after you mix the two halves of the ingredients together. Vaughan was pretty much amazed!

Flubber Recipe

Mixture 1:
1 ½ cups warm water
2 cups Elmer’s Glue
Food coloring

Mixture 2:
3 tsp. Borax
1 cup Warm Water

Stir mixture 1 together in 1 bowl and Mixture 2 in another bowl. Make sure both are mixed well. Then, pour mixture 1 into mixture 2. You don’t really need to stir the two mixtures together as the chemical reaction starts happening almost immediately, but we did stir it around as we watched it solidify. Pick it up and really mush it around in your hands. It will feel really gross and wet at first, but as you work with it, it will become more dry and “rubbery” feeling. Once it’s not leaving goop on your hands, just plop it down on the table for the kids to play with!

I read that you can store it in a Ziploc bag or air-tight container for up to three weeks.

The best part was leaving it to sit for a few minutes and coming back to find it all flattened, smooth, and quite a big bigger around than it was when you left it. Weird stuff!

Happy Hearts and Cute Kids

In preparation for my Valentine’s Day Mini Sessions coming up at the end of this month, I decided to use my own cute little models for some sample shots. I got all of these shots in under 30 minutes…even with one very minor Rheya tantrum. I think they came out really great and they work so perfectly for the informational piece I will put together for my clients.

When life gives you lemons…

…just take some pictures of your adorable children instead! I was supposed to have a photo session at the park today, but the family was a no-show. I was annoyed, to say the least, since I was already out there with both kids in tow. Fortunately, the kids agreed to a little walk around the Botanic Gardens and along the lake so I could take some pictures. They were great troopers even though it was pretty cold. I love the “bundled up” look with the hats and coats!

Building Some Family Time

Ok, so you can’t really “build” family time, but here are a few cute shots of family time building some Lego sets that Vaughan got for Christmas. Vaughan put quite a bit together by himself with only very minimal help from Rick. Rheya wasn’t much help at all, but she sat while Rick and Vaughan built. Vaughan proceeded to play with his new Lego boat and truck for the rest of the evening!

Vaughan is Five (plus a month)

It’s always my goal to get the kids’ annual birthday pictures done as close to their birthdays as I can, but this year it was just impossible. So, here are Vaughan’s five-year pictures taken almost a whole month after his fifth birthday. He’s looking so grown-up and handsome. He’s also getting very relaxed in front of the camera now. He smiles more easily and naturally, which makes my job a lot easier! Happy fifth birthday, little man!

Happy New Year and Welcome 2012!

Another year has flown by and my head is spinning as I think about all that happened this year. I need to make a conscious effort to stop and smell the roses this year. When I look back, I see that time went too fast and I didn’t spend enough time enjoying the everyday moments. Happy New Year to all and may 2012 bring you health, wealth, and happiness!

Here is our annual New Year’s Eve family photo (in front of our new fireplace)!

Merry Christmas 2011!

After all of the excitement we’ve had the last month, we were all ready for a nice, mellow Christmas. We had just that! We did stocking and presents with the kids on Christmas morning, then Joe, Kitty, and Barb all came over for lunch and some more presents and fun. We then saw my mom, Judy, the following day for even more presents and some dinner at Texas Roadhouse. Lots of fun!

Karate Kristmas!

Vaughan (and Rheya’s) karate studio put on a neat Christmas Demo for all the parents. It was really fun and cute to see the little kids doing their program. Rheya has been participating in class, and she even got out there for the demo! It was great to see how well they all behaved! They demonstrated their katas, horse stance walk, upper blocks, stranger danger, and even did some throws (I can’t remember what the technical name is for the throws). It was really dark in the studio and I didn’t have a zoom lens, so my pictures aren’t great, but you get the idea…it was cute!

Vaughan’s Christmas Program

Yes, it’s that time of year again! The little kiddies learn their songs and dances and the parents proudly snap pictures and record video of the darling performance they put on for us. It was super cute and I did notice that Vaughan was actually singing along, although he’s certainly not the loudest.:)

They did a lovely version of Silent Night as most of the kids held candles. They also sang jingle bells as they accompanied themselves with hand bells. It was adorable!
