I just couldn’t resist taking a picture of a cute little smiley girl in a pretty pink towel!
Those of you who have been reading this blog since the beginning (or almost the beginning), may remember what the kids’ room used to look like (if you don’t, here’s a link). Rick and I painstakingly installed bead board, painted green stripes, and then black bears on the walls in that room. We started the project before Vaughan was born and finished it a few months after he was born. It was super cute and we loved it! Well, all cute things must come to an end…especially when a little sister is added into the mix. The kids share a room and we thought it was about time we revamp it, so the bears are gone, fresh taupe paint now covers the walls, and bunk beds are on their way! We’re all very excited for the “new” room!
No special occasion here, just snapping some pictures of the kids as they played outside. We’ll just call it “practice” for my photography business.
I asked Vaughan to take a few pictures of me (with my big, heavy camera). He did such a great job that I used this one of me as my profile picture on Facebook for a while! He’s a great little photographer and love the way he “directs” me…just like I direct him when he’s posing. So cute!
And this day was a scorcher! We ventured outside at about 9:30 in the morning just so we could get in some pool time before it got unbearably hot. The kids tolerate the heat much better than I do, but I guess that’s because they’re kids. I’m sure the heat never bothered me when I was young.
So, I filled up the kiddie pool and let them splash and play while I pulled up a chair and put my feet in the water. We did that until almost lunchtime when we retreated to the house and made an attempt to keep cool. Fall, where are you?
We took these adorable pictures out in the backyard the other day. I was preparing for Rick’s cousin, Alicia, to come over for some lessons on using her new camera, so I wanted a few sample shots to work with and the kids were having fun and actually posing for me. But, the next day was rainy, Vaughan was sick, I had to cancel with Alicia, and it was all around pretty miserable for everyone. At least I could look at the cute pictures and think of the previous day and the smiles everyone had for me!
I’m not always up for an adventure in painting with two messy kids (well, ok…really just one messy kid), but it was a nice day and we were bored, so I got out the chalk paint. It’s pretty cool stuff and the kids seemed to enjoy painting the sidewalk in the backyard.
As usual, after the novelty has worn off, Rheya resorts to painting herself and the huge mess quickly follows. Vaughan, however, is kind of a neat freak. If he gets even a little bit of paint on himself, he gets upset and wants it cleaned off immediately. I’m trying to get him to relax about it. The differences between the two kids always amaze me!
So, we painted. Vaughan stayed pretty clean. Rheya covered herself in paint. We cleaned up. It was a good afternoon!
I saw this idea on a website or something and thought it looked fun. I put my camera around my neck, set the timer, and set the camera to take a series of about eight pictures in a row. Then I spun each kid around and did my best to get them to look at the camera while we whirled in a circle. It was fun, but I was super dizzy after all that spinning!
I might try it again and strap the camera to my body around my stomach so it stays in place rather than swinging from side to side as I move. Here are the two best shots I got:
The kids and I had a surprise visit from my cousin, Carrie, and her daughter, Sara, yesterday. I saw on Facebook that they were heading up to Cheyenne by way of Greeley, so I told them to drop in! The kids were eager to show off some new toys and all the things they can do. It was good to see them both and I made sure to offer some last minute advice to Sara who is off to her freshman year in college!
After they got back on the road, we played outside for a bit since it was such a pleasant afternoon. As usual, Vaughan wearing shoes and Rheya going barefoot…
By the time the kids are adults, I should be able to put together a large book of photos just from all the Frontier Days activities over the years. I’ll have to keep that in mind.
Here’s a slideshow of our activities from this year. Since Rick is working out of town, he wasn’t able to join us for the Thunderbirds show or the first pancake breakfast, but we were all able to attend another breakfast, a parade, the carnival and even a rodeo with BOTH kids! Lots of fun times!
Sometimes Vaughan just gets on a roll and he can talk and talk and talk…and he can be very animated, too. On this particular day, he was playing store with me and selling me cameras and lenses and camera straps at really great prices!
