A graduation of sorts

Vaughan has officially completed his first year of preschool. He’ll be going back to the same preschool again next year, which he couldn’t be more thrilled about. He loves his school and he loves his teacher. He’d go every day, all day if he could! He’ll turn five this December, so he’ll be ready for kindergarten in the fall of 2012, but for now, he’s happy as a clam.

His class put on a Spring Art Show and Program for all of the parents last night. It was so adorable to see all of the artwork they had been making for us and to hear all of the songs they had practiced. They all did a fantastic job and I noticed that Vaughan was singing and doing all of the motions to all of the songs. (At the Christmas program, I didn’t see him singing at all!) Some of the kids in Vaughan’s class are moving on to Kindergarten this fall, so they were the “graduates” and the kids that are going to be coming back next year were the “frogs” jumping from one lily pad to the next, but still staying in the same pond. It was adorable and we had a great time!

Finchstock 2011

We have a few bird feeders in our backyard which provide some great entertainment on days like today. We had an extraordinary number of Gold Finches visiting us today and I managed to get some shots of them swarming the feeders. It took a little while for them to all get comfortable with me sitting there about ten feet from the feeder, but once they saw that I wasn’t doing anything but taking pictures, they got the party started! We’re calling it Finchstock 2011!

Fashion-Conscious at Four

Vaughan picks out his own clothes each morning and the only time I interfere is if he picks something that isn’t appropriate for the weather or if we are going somewhere special. Otherwise, he does it all on his own. Well, yesterday, he picked out this ensemble which I thought was just about the cutest thing I have ever seen! I asked him if he would be willing to pose for some pictures and he very nicely agreed. What a great kid!

Soccer Time!

Vaughan’s first organized sport! I use the word “organized” very loosely though. Watching a group of four-year-olds play soccer looks like complete chaos, but it sure is cute! I took a few shots of Vaughan with his soccer ball at home and then I took lots of shots at his first game.

He really enjoys it and actually stays interested for the entire game. Some of the kids really lost some steam after about 15 minutes. They sat down in the grass or ran over to their parents in the middle of the game, but not Vaughan! He was right there in the fray!

Easter Festivities

Since we had a few different Easter-related activities this week, I decided to lump them all into one blog post.

We colored some Easter eggs at home. (Rick couldn’t be here to help since he is working out of town right now.) It was a little stressful, since I’m a bit controlling and this activity involves messy dye, but we got it done!

My mom’s group also had an Easter egg hunt at a member’s home. It was supposed to be at the park, but the weather was pretty awful, so we moved it indoors. The kids still had fun and found plenty of eggs in the basement. My friend, Kelly, took the picture of me with the kids! Vaughan’s eyes are still a little puffy, but nearly as bad as they were right after the carpet was installed.

Finally, it was Easter and the kids checked out what the Easter Bunny brought for them. I also made each of them a little cooking apron so when they help in the kitchen they can stay (somewhat) clean. We hope you all had a wonderful Easter holiday!

Here comes Peter Cottontail…

…hopping down the bunny trail! In this case, it’s a girl bunny named Einstein. And she didn’t do much hopping…mostly just sitting (which was totally fine with me). We borrowed this beautiful bunny from a friend so I could do some Easter mini sessions for some clients. Since we had the bunny here, I had to do some cute pictures of Vaughan and Rheya with Einstein. I love these!

Vaughan doesn’t quite look like himself. We think he’s having some kind of mild allergic reaction to the fibers in the new carpet in the basement. We’re hoping this will pass as the carpet “settles.” For now, he just looks a little squinty!
