After the snow comes the slightly warmer (sunnier) days and a little bit of melting. It makes a perfect day to be outside to play in the snow! This was just in our backyard today…
Rick loves Legos. He has loved them ever since he was a kid. Are you ready for a shocking realization?! Vaughan loves Legos, too! Vaughan already has mountains of Lego sets and has started to figure out how to make his very own creations with the millions of little pieces. I’ve never been very “good” at Legos…I guess it’s something that requires more testosterone or something, but I’m very glad that they have something fun they can do together. Vaughan can even play by himself as he was earlier today!
And Happy Groundhog Day, as well! My mom (Nana) has the great fortune of sharing her birthday with one of her granddaughters and also with Groundhog Day! Yes, we’ll still have at least six more weeks of winter…this IS Wyoming after all. It was a pretty chilly (windy) day today, but we enjoyed a nice dinner out with Nana, Grandpa and two of Grandpa’s granddaughters who live here in town. Happy Birthday, Nana!
I’m so happy to report that Vaughan has officially become an excellent model on whom I can practice my photography. He might get a little irritated sometimes, but I can always convince him, “Just a few more, ok?”
I have some new backdrops and floors for my in-studio photo sessions, so I set some up today and snapped away as Vaughan nicely posed for me. What a good sport!
We have a new family member! Doesn’t he look absolutely terrifying? Don’t worry…he was just sleepy and yawning after a busy day!
His name is Jinx…yes, black cat…we had to do it. We considered the name Vader, but the kids can’t pronounce it very well and it was sounding a little too much like “Rheya” which we thought might get confusing for all of us. “Mommy! Rheya is climbing up the curtains!”
We adopted him from the Cheyenne Animal Shelter. He’s about four months old and full of endless kitten energy. When he finally calms down, he’s just about the sweetest, snuggliest kitty I have ever met. He loves to cuddle! So far, Keo does not like him at all, but we think they’ll get to be friends soon enough. She just needs to jump in and play with him!
Here is our annual family picture for New Year’s Eve! (Actually, this picture was taken on January 1st since I had to work at Applebee’s on New Year’s Eve this year and we didn’t have time to get it done.)
Happy New Year to you all! May you have a happy, healthy and prosperous 2011!
It’s funny how Christmas is really just the one day a year, but when it comes to the month of December, there sure is a lot of Christmas-related activity! We found ourselves at a Christmas party that we have been attending for a number of years now. It’s a very different kind of party for us these days since we have two small children to chase around, but the food is always delicious and we always have a nice time!
Christmas Eve found us at Nana and Grandpa’s house with Sharlene, John and the kids. Great fun!
We had Christmas morning at home. Of course, Santa brought lots of goodies for the kids and they ripped into those gifts like old pros. Rheya got a little distracted after a while, but she enjoyed the presents!
Christmas night was spent at Grandma’s house. We had a very nice dinner and the kids opened even more gifts!
Whew! Time for a long winter’s nap!
We have officially started down the road of school holiday programs/recitals/sporting events/etc. Vaughan’s preschool class had their Christmas program yesterday and it was totally adorable…as you could imagine. What’s cuter than 20 4-year-olds singing Christmas songs? It was pretty crowded there with all the parents and kids, but it was great fun! Vaughan didn’t seem to be singing much, but he was doing the hand motions for each of the songs. We look forward to many more of these as the years go on!
I think I always say this, but I just can’t believe Vaughan is FOUR! Kids change so much and so fast…sometimes I feel like we can’t even keep up with the changes. For Vaughan’s birthday this year, we decided on a pirate theme. We had some of his friends come over to our house for pizza, cake and games. It was a lot of crazy fun! I made a treasure chest cake and Rick set up a whole pirate scene around the cake using some really cool pirate Legos that he got just for this party.
After pizza, we played “Pin the Eye Patch on the Pirate”…always a fun game for young kids!
Next, we let the kids dig for buried treasure. Since Vaughan’s birthday is in the middle of winter and it will most likely never be nice enough to have any sort of outdoor party games, we decided to put the sand and the “treasure” in a large plastic tub in the basement. The kids all ended up with a ton of “booty” and sand all over the place!
Then, it was time for cake!
As we did for Vaughan’s birthday last year, we asked our party guests to bring a donation for the Cheyenne Animal Shelter in lieu of gifts. We had a nice bunch of donations to take over to the shelter after the party!
