Birthday Bowling

We were invited to a birthday party at our local bowling alley, so we decided it would be great fun for the kids. We were right! The kids loved it…and there were cupcakes, too! I must say that it was a bit challenging taking pictures without a flash under terrible florescent lighting, but it was good practice for me.

Belt Testing

Here are Vaughan and Rheya at karate getting ready to do their first belt test…from white to yellow. They both knew all the things they were supposed to know, but Rheya did not finish the test because her attention span got the best of her. Vaughan did really well and we will find out soon if he passed. They will be having a Belt Presentation Ceremony which should be pretty fun!

“Old School” Paper Shredder

We had a combination of a somewhat nice evening and nothing better to do, so Rick made a fire in our huge fire pit out back. We decided it was a good time to burn through some paper work that has been sitting in our “to be shredded” box for a while. We also had some S’mores, but I didn’t have any good pictures of that. Taking decent pictures in almost total darkness is pretty challenging.  :)

A little more Nova

Here are a couple more photos of Nova being Nova. She’s an awesome jumper! She’d probably be really good at those dog agility courses…she certainly has enough energy for something like that. The other photo was taken up at Vedauwoo. She was not on a leash most of the time and never got more than about 30 or 40 feet away from us. Rick had her jumping up on rocks and she was climbing and leaping off of them like she was born to do it.

Snow and ice are oh so nice!

Cheyenne has been doing an Ice Festival each February for the last few years. We have never gone to it before, but decided we would check it out this year since the weather wasn’t too bad. They bring in snow machines to make huge piles of snow on the grassy area next to the Wyoming State Museum located downtown. They build the snow up into a huge slide and dig a tunnel underneath. The kids really love it (especially since we’ve hardly had any snow around here for several years). There were also some ice sculptures, archery targets, marshmallow roasting, and some indoor stuff as well, like some displays from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. Here are just a few pictures of the fun!

New reader in the house

It’s so exciting for me to listen to Vaughan read ALL BY HIMSELF! He has learned so much so quickly that it just blows my mind. Kids really are like little sponges…just soaking up knowledge everywhere they go. Vaughan reads a book from the school library just about every night. On this particular night, he had already finished his library book when Rheya brought out one of her books and pretty soon he was reading it for her. So cute!

Beautiful Girl

Rheya at four years old:

Strong-willed…funny…wild imagination…independent…snuggly…excellent sleeper…terrible eater…inquisitive…shy around others, but a total ham at home…loves animals…loves babies…dolls are her favorite thing to play with…tolerates my ever-present camera…is a dream to shop with as long as Vaughan isn’t with us…AND totally gorgeous! Those lips! And those eyes! She has to spend a lot of time with me since Vaughan is at school all day and Rick works away from home all week, so we definitely get on each other’s nerves. But, at the end of the day, she is always ready to snuggle up on the couch with me and it makes all the tough parts of the day seem not so bad.  :)

We love you, Rheya Marie!

As I have done for each of the kids’ birthdays, here are Rheya’s birthday pictures!
