Official 6th Birthday Pics!

Vaughan is such an awesome kid! First of all, where did the last six years go? Aside from that shock, I do know that he is amazing, smart, funny, motivated, and oh so handsome! Wait, did I mention SMART?!? Holy cow, he is doing so well at school. He can read! And his math skills are off the charts! With these looks and all those smarts, the girls will be beating down our door in a matter of a few years. Ugh! We love you, Punkin!

If You Take a Mouse to the Movies

If you haven’t read any of the “If You Take a Mouse…” books, you should check out a couple of them. They are super cute and the “Movie” edition made the perfect theme for Vaughan’s Class Christmas Program. I volunteered to make 32 pom pom snowballs to be used during the show and I think they came out pretty cute (you can see them in one of the pictures below). The Kindergarteners and First Graders did a beautiful job with their songs and dances and I think I saw a few happy tears from some of the parents in the audience (and, yes, a few tears from me as well). We were also very happy to have both Grandma and Nana there!

It was a bittersweet day since it was the same day as the terrible Newtown elementary school shootings. It was on all of our minds as we sat and watched these adorable 5, 6, and 7 year olds.

Here are a few pictures of the action.  :)

Happy Birthday from the Jedi Training Academy!

I had a ton of fun planning Vaughan’s sixth birthday party this year! We decided on a Star Wars theme…specifically the Jedi Training Academy. We invited all of his friends to come train at the academy to become official Jedis. I made 13 (yes, 13!) Jedi robes, and we had light sabers that each party guest customized by choosing their favorite color. We also did some light saber training (keeping balloons up in the air). After all the training, we fueled up with some goodies, like Palpatine’s Pizza, Obi-Wan Kabobs, Light Saber Pretzels, Yoda Soda, and cupcakes! Then, we took on the Death Star (pinata) and successfully defeated the Empire! Woo hoo!

The kids had a great time and got to take home their robes and light sabers as favors (along with some candy from the Death Star battle). Now, onto the rest of our December craziness!

The Christmas tree is up!

The tree is up just a little later than usual this year, but Rick and Vaughan were out of town during the weekend after Thanksgiving (Karate Camp in Denver). So, we waited until today to set it up. It’s upstairs this year since our basement is still all torn apart. It looks especially beautiful this year…I’m not sure what the difference is, but I love it! We did our traditional picture of the kids in their new Christmas jammies in front of the tree and we added a picture of Ellie in front of it, too!

Grown-up hair

Rheya has bangs! I have been wanting to get her hair cut for a while, so we finally just did it! I initially tried to get her hair cut by a professional, but, in true Rheya style, she has a total meltdown at the salon and wanted nothing to do with it, so we left. After a few more weeks went by, I just decided to try it myself. I’d say it’s not too bad for my first effort. It sure makes her look older!

The Boys Weekend

Rick and Vaughan had a fantastic long weekend visiting Pop Pop and Grandma Terry in Wisconsin! They did all the fun Wisconsin stuff, including the tour of Lambeau Field, tailgating at a Packers game, bowling, and I’m sure there were cheese curds involved somehow.  :)

Here’s a slideshow of some of the great pics that they came home with!

Halloween 2012

Yikes! This time of year is just crazy busy! I failed to get a decent picture of both kids in their Halloween costumes (Vaughan as Anakin Skywalker and Rheya as an Indian Princess).  :(  But, here are few of our Halloween activities, including a party at the karate dojo and trick-or-treating at Nana’s house.
