Softball Down South

My mom, the kids, and I drove down to Greeley today to watch McKenna’s team play in a softball tournament. It was great to finally get a chance to see her in action! I felt bad for those girls having to play in such ridiculous heat, but it didn’t seem to bother them much. I’m glad we got one more chance to see Suzanne and McKenna before they had to head back to Texas.

Summer on Fire

Lately it seems as if the whole world is coming apart at the seams. The weather all across the country has just been miserable…the highest temperatures that many states have ever seen along with major flooding in Florida. It’s just terrible. Here in our part of the country, we have been experiencing massive fires that have burned thousands and thousands of acres. We have had so little rain and snow that the whole western half of the U.S. is an absolute tinderbox. Many, many homes have been destroyed and lives have been lost. It frightens me to think that we, as humans, are so vulnerable to Mother Nature.

With all of the fires nearby, we have had a lot of smoke come our way, and with that smoke comes some truly amazing sunsets. So much beauty from so much destruction…

A little more time to visit

We were able to have breakfast with Suzanne and McKenna this morning before they head down to Ft. Collins for a week of softball tournaments. It was nice for the kids to have a chance to see them!

After breakfast, we went to visit some adorable 5-day-old puppies. The puppies belong to a friend and co-worker of my MIL, Barb. Barb got her dog Tallis, from them and they recently borrowed him to father these puppies. They were so cute! They don’t even have their eyes open yet!

Sheriff Betty

My mom adopted a dog from the Cheyenne Animal Shelter a few months ago and she is just about the cutest, sweetest little dog I have met! She was a stray, but obviously had been someone’s loving pet at some point. She is a fantastic companion and does her job very well. The folks at the shelter named her Betty, so mom decided to keep the name since it seemed to suit her quite well. I like to call her “Sheriff Betty” because it looks like she has an old-timey sheriff’s mustache.  :)  Here’s Betty outside on a nice day and Betty walking back home with the kids.

Introducing, Ellie!

When we moved into this larger house with all this backyard space, we knew we would probably be getting a dog at some point. Once I started looking around at places that adopt out animals in need of good homes, it didn’t take long to find Ellie. We got her from the Black Dog Animal Rescue, a great organization here in town. We had to drive to Laramie to pick her up because that’s where she was being fostered. She was immediately a great fit for us! She’s so sweet and gentle, she loves kids and other animals (including cats), she’s just the right mix of playful and lazy, she is totally housebroken and does not chew on anything that isn’t hers, and she’s just plain adorable! Her name was Frannie, but we decided to call her Ellie instead. It shouldn’t take her long to get used to a new name because she seems to be picking up on things very quickly. We love her already! Welcome to our family, Ellie!

Another Big Milestone!

Our baby boy is no longer a pre-schooler! How did this happen? Tonight Vaughan “graduated” from pre-school in an adorable little ceremony at his school. The kids put on a show complete with songs, dances, and artwork for all the parents and families. It brought a tear (or two) to my eyes as Vaughan received his “diploma” from Miss Barbara. We love you, Vaughan, and we are so proud of you! Next stop…kindergarten!
